Abstract: 

Natural language understanding (NLU), which enables machines to understand human natural languages, has been applied to various AI applications. Voice assistants like Alexa, Bixby, Google Assistant, and Siri are one of the applications that requires high NLU accuracy in order to perform tasks based on user voice commands. In this talk, I will introduce voice assistant systems and the NLU techniques & challenges of voice assistants. Then, I will share my work experience in the AI area at tech companies and answer any questions about career paths of students.

Bio:

Jinwoo Park is a software engineer at Google. Prior to Google, he worked at Meta/Samsung Electronics/Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology as a software engineer and a research scientist. He was an intern at Microsoft Research and Microsoft Research Asia. He received his Ph. D. degree in Computer Science in POSTECH. He worked on natural language processing, data mining, computer vision, and information retrieval.
